Portsmouth will be the favourites for once as they tackle second division Blackpool on Saturday, but Redknapp wanted to rest some of his more established players in order to concentrate on their Premiership survival bid.
Redknapp said of the upcoming game: "I am not taking Blackpool lightly but in normal circumstances this would have been a great chance to rest a player or two.We have a big game coming up at Aston Villa next week and staying in the Premiership is our priority".
To add to Redknapp's woes, Jason Roberts is cup-tied as West Bromwich Albion, who face Nottingham Forest in the cup this weekend, wish to keep the striker an option should they progress.
