No Need To Panic

It may only be July, but I sense that more than a few Pompey fans are worrying about the lack of transfer activity at the club at the moment.

I honestly don't know why there is so much alarm. It's still early doors with pre-season just about to start and it's not like we're the only club to not make many strides in the transfer market.

We've actually done alright for this stage of the summer having brought in two players and whilst some might question their quality I think they may turn out to be quite shrewd, especially Glen Little.

Pompey fans will point out that we missed out on Gutierrez because we "dilly-dallied" for too long and Newcastle pinched him. But since when has there been concrete evidence to suggest that we made an official approach for him in the first place?

Besides, just because he is highly rated in Spain doesn't mean he's going to make an impact in England. I would much rather take a proven winger at Premier League level, such as Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Don't forget that Euro 2008 has also delayed a lot of transfer activity with many targets, as well as the media, more focused on the tournament rather than moving clubs.

Also, the lack of transfer activity so far could be a good thing as nobody important has left Pompey yet. We're going to need a big squad and I'm happy to not be hearing any players officially wanting to leave Fratton Park yet.

The big moves will come in time, in the meantime don't get frustrated and don't panic!
