Niko Kranjcar has had to have ankle surgery and will be out of action for up to three months as a result.
The Croatian suffered ruptured ligaments whilst playing for his country in a 3-2 win over Slovenia last week and medical staff have estimated that he will be out for 8 to 12 weeks.
This news is a big blow for Pompey who now have to make do without our most creative player for at least a quarter of the season. Harry Redknapp must be extremely frustrated that he now has to try and temporarily fill the creative void that Kranjcar's absence has left and that will be no easy task.
The only good news here is that Niko won't be around to embarass any England goalkeepers when Croatia meet England in the upcoming World Cup qualifier.
Fratton Faithful wishes Niko a speedy recovery.
