Okay, so it looks as though Carl Cort is more likely to be lining up against Pompey than for them; but Pompey chairman Milan Mandaric didn't waste any time lining up a new target; he admitted to Sky Sports News that the Bayer Leverkusen forward is a target.
Donovan, who caught the eye during the USA's march to the World Cup quater-finals in 2002, has been with the San Jose Earthquakes since 2001, but the MLS is currently out of season and Donovan wants a fresh challenge.
"A couple of other clubs in England are looking, but he wants to come here. Harry Redknapp likes him - he is a quality player" Milan gushed.
Donovan may move to Fratton Park on a loan deal until the rest of the season. But, as always, we'll see.
