Loan Ranger

Richard Duffy will join Coventry City on a year long loan next season. It'll be his second spell with the Championship side who narrowly avoided relegation last season and who begin life in their brand new ground in August; he played fifteen games for the Sky Blues between January and May this year and during which time he played well enough to earn a call up for the full Welsh squad.

A good move for "The Duffmeister General", as he is never known by anyone, as it means he gets more first team football under his belt. A good move for us since we get a player with more experience when he returns. A good move for Coventry, since their fans were quite taken with him. Also it would tend to suggest that we're looking at other defensive/right sided targets considering how few options we have on that side of the park.

On to "other stories"; the first 110% officially confirmed transfer story of the season is that Pompey were rejected by Czech international Vratislav Lokvenc. We were involved in a three way bidding war including Hertha Berlin and Salzberg, and in the end he chose the Austrian option. I think it says something about the motivations of a player when he choses the Austrian league over the Premiership or the Bundesliga - indeed, Peter Storrie has since come out to proclaim that an un-licensed agent asking for a high fee had driven our (and the German) bid off the rails. Make what you will of the fact he's a six foot four striker and Perrin is rumoured to enjoy the long ball, sorry, "direct" approach.

Elsewhere Peter Lovenkrands' agent has said we're currently in pole position for signing the Danish winger. So to translate that from agent talk; "Portsmouth have a bid but I want more money so therefore if I talk to the papers someone else will bid and I get more cash. Probably Charlton to pair up with their other pacey inconsistent winger, Dennis Rommedahl".

A shocking event today as "The News" resisted the urge to print a story about Alexei Smertin, so that's a small step in the right direction.

Oh, and Peter Storrie has also said he's fed up with all the unfounded speculation doing the rounds. So I feel it my duty to tell you that Koen Daerden, a Belgian international who plays for Genk, is the latest from the grapevine. Sorry Petey boy.

That's your lot!
