Lazy Laurent

Everyone else has had their say and, not wanting to be seperate from the majority, it's Fratton Faithful's turn to stick the proverbial oar in - especially now, we're told, everything is finally sorted out. So let's have a gander at who said/did what.

Laurent Robert
Sulked, tried to defend himself, got fined, has apologised. Undoubtedly he doesn't mean his apology (after all it was issued through the club rather than from his mouth) and probably still feels he's in the right but it's good PR after all. A little bit silly that he's still trying to cling to the excuse that he was injured though - be a big man and just admit you threw a strop. Still thinks he's starting on Saturday though, which could be intriguing.

Alain Perrin
Tried to play things down to begin with but, given his no-nonsense reputation, you get the feeling that he's probably not best pleased about one player trying to be bigger than the club. Now that Laurent has pretty much admitted he was in the wrong, it'll be interesting to see what will happen for the Wigan game - although his choice will have been made easier since Vignal and Taylor did well.

Milan Mandaric
Always one to mince his words, bless him, and came out and demanded an apology pretty much straight away. Oh, and was sure to be on Sky Sports News soon after talking about the situation, as well as muddying the waters even further by mentioning Harry Redknapp. Quite why he felt the need to do that no-one knows.

Peter Storrie
Thanks to Robert, the stadium project has been put back by six months.

Fratton Faithful
My take on the whole situation is that if Robert has apologised and is prepared to knuckle down, then that's the end of it. I think his actions were as irritating and pathetic as the next person but if we start booing and jeering him it'll just rub off on the rest of the team and help the opposition. Give him a second chance (how many times has he heard THAT in his career) and let's see what he can do. But I think it needs to be made very clear - and no doubt it has been - that he's got to prove himself all over again and, more importantly, isn't just going to walk into the team. He's part of a squad, has to play to deserve his place and if that means missing out against Wigan then he has to accept it.

But somehow I get the feeling this one could rear it's head again...
