Laws Declares Pompey Interest

Brian Laws is the latest name to be linked with the Portsmouth job as the man himself has said he is "shown interest" in the vacant manager's position at Fratton Park.

Like McGhee, Laws doesn't strike me as a particularly inspiring candidate. He began his managerial career at Grimsby but made a name for himself at Scunthorpe as he got them promoted from League Two to the Championship where he was then poached by Sheffield Wednesday.

Unfortunately, Laws' career failed to progress and he was sacked by the Owls after a poor run of results in 2009. Despite that, Premier League Burnley believed he was the man to take over from Owen Coyle but that appointment also ended in failure as the Clarets were relegated and Laws was sacked following a mediocre start to the Championship campaign.

Those previous two failures make me believe that Laws wouldn't be the right man to fill Steve Cotterill's boots at Portsmouth. Someone like Lee Clark of Huddersfield would have been a good appointment but he has pledged his future to Huddersfield Town.

As the Pompey management saga continues it is Eddie Howe who is currently the bookies' favourite, currently priced at 2/1 to take the job.

However, if what David Lampitt says is true then it will be a while yet before someone takes the job.
