Niko Kranjcar won't play again for Pompey this season after scans revealed he has suffered ankle ligament damage after being stretchered off at Fratton Park against Bolton.
Pompey hope that he will be ready for pre-season training for the next campaign but given the speculation regarding his future at the club it looks like he may have worn the famous royal blue shirt for the last time.
Niko has hinted in the local media that he would be happy to stay in the now likely event that Pompey survive relegation but it may not be his choice as if Sacha can't find a buyer then Kranjcar is probably at the top of the "sellable assets" lists given that he only has a year left on his contract.
The latest news I'm hearing about a possible takeover bid is that Peter Storrie was in America to discuss a takeover with a couple of consortiums as well as arranging a pre-season event in the states.
But even if we were to be taken over, Niko has said in the past that he wants to play for a big European club and there has been constant speculation linking him to Arsenal and Panathinaikos this season.
Fees of £12 million and above have been rumoured to be offered for the Croat and Pompey would be mad not to take that for a talented, but inconsistent player who I believe to be over-rated by many pundits and fans alike.
That's not to say I'd be unhappy if he stayed. He has been great since Paul Hart played him in his favourite position and he would have a lot to offer when fully fit next season if we can keep hold of him.
