Kitson Walks Away

Dave Kitson has agreed a compromise deal to leave Portsmouth Football Club with a year remaining on his contract.

The striker, who scored 12 goals in 68 games for Pompey, will be paid the money he is owed over four years and will become a free agent with no other club to go to.

Whilst it's a shame that no other club would pay a transfer fee to take Kitson from Pompey, at least he will now be gone after the weekend.

It's safe to say he won't be missed by Pompey fans. He may have worked hard on the pitch but his goalscoring record for Pompey was extremely disappointing given his past reputation and his knack of getting sent off for violent conduct also didn't win him any fans.

With Kitson's departure, only Liam Lawrence and Tal Ben-Haim remain. Ben-Haim has today been linked with a return to West Ham and a reunion with former boss Sam Allardyce, who managed to get the best out of him at Bolton.

Hopefully the last two players can be shifted and then the Pompey Supporters' Trust, who tabled a bid for the club yesterday, can take over.

The bid looks solid but there are still questions to be answered. Will the council finally realise how important the football club is to the city and grant the bridging loan the Trust need to buy Fratton Park?

And will Balram Chainrai accept £2.75 million for a stadium he believes to be worth around £17 million?

And can the Trust guarantee the Football League that it can pay back the £10 million to creditors when they are not guaranteed to receive the £3 million from the Pompey fans' pledges?

So many questions to be answered, but at least we now know that the Trust and their "high net worth" individuals have tabled a credible bid.
