Pompey have moved to dispel rumours that the Premiership's joint-top goalscorer will be leaving the club in January following reports that Kanu claimed he would be going to Ajax for more money.
The reports stemmed from an interview on Nigerian radio where the Pompey striker claimed that he would wait until January so he could rejoin his former club. He was quoted as saying "It's all about the money. If a better offer comes, I will take it."
Chief Executive Peter Storrie has since come out and claimed that Kanu is going nowhere and has re-iterated that he is contracted to Portsmouth until the end of the season. Storrie said "He is playing very well for us and that is why you get this speculation. I can't make it any clearer that he is our player and that's that."
Harry Redknapp also backed up Storrie's statement as he claimed that it was just Kanu's agent trying to get him a move elsewhere again.
This isn't the first time rumours of this nature have appeared. Kanu supposedly claimed that he was going to Ajax and taking Edgar Davids with him. This rumour was also shrugged off and whilst I'm not so gullible to believe what a random Nigerian radio interview has to say, there is no smoke without fire and it'll be interesting to see if more on this story comes out in the next few weeks or so.
It wouldn't surprise me if this was just agent talk though. After all we had it with Yakubu and Barry Silkman so why should anything change now?
