James Signs For Robins

David James is likely to be playing at Fratton Park again this season, only it will be for Steve Coppell's Bristol City.

After Pompey decided to retract their offer and Celtic ended their interest, the Robins wasted no time in signing James on a one-year deal with the option of an extra year.

I'm still angry that the powers-that-be at Pompey ran out of patience because James signing for City has more-or-less proven that he would have stayed with us if the offer was right.

So not only have we lost out on someone who is surely the best goalkeeper in the Championship, but maybe a future goalkeeping coach too. Dave won't officially sign for City until the 1st of August, meaning Pompey will still have to pay him around £140,000 in severance pay.

The only positive to come out of this is that Jamo is almost at the end of his career and was starting to become injury prone. But I'd still swap him for any goalkeeper in our league and even most of them in the Premier League.

I'd like to take the opportunity to thank David James for his immense contribution to the team. His outstanding saves won us many points and helped us get to two FA Cup finals. He is certainly the best goalkeeper I have seen play for Portsmouth.

I wish him all the best at Ashton Gate.
