The first Portsmouth players in action this weekend were Gary O'Neil and Richard Duffy, as both featured for their U21 sides on Friday night. O'Neil captained England to a 2-2 draw with Germany - thanks in no small part to a horrific error by our keeper - but was carried off in injury time after a clash of heads. Meanwhile, Duffy played his part in defence to hang on to an early lead as Wales beat their Austrian counterparts 1-0.
Onto the more serious business of qualification for the finals; Yakubu played an hour for Nigeria before being substituted as they beat Gabon 2-0 - a result that takes the Super Eagles to the top of their group. Elsewhere in Africa both Aliou Cissé and Diomansy Kamara were left out of the Senegal squad (although former midfielder Amdy Faye did feature in their 6-1 victory over Liberia), whilst LuaLua's DR Congo face Ghana this afternoon.
The only other two players in World Cup international duty were our keepers, Shaka Hislop and Kostas Chalkias. Chalky kept the bench warm for Greece during their 3-1 victory over Georgia whilst Shaka probably wished he had got to do the same. He conceded five as Trinidad and Tobago went down to a heavy defeat against Guatemala, although his side did grab one goal in reply.
Finally Alexsander Rodic played for Slovenia in a friendly as they lost 1-0 to Germany. The striker, of whom we have seen little, did manage to hit the bar but unfortunately couldn't get an equaliser for his country.
