Pompey's magic midfielder, Robert Prosinecki, could soon be leaving the club - despite being here for only half a season. A Croatian newspaper has reported that German Champions Bayern see the midfielder as the perfect replacement for jaded star Stefan Effenburg.
It will shock Pompey fans who have been assured by the Croat and by Milan Mandaric that Prosinecki is happy on the South Coast. His agent however disagrees and Prosinecki himself is quoted as saying:
'Joining Bayern Munich would be a dream come true. They are an excellent team, plus playing for them I could perfectly prepare for our World Cup matches in the summer.'
The paper suggests that he could be gone by January 20th - if the German club pay the £2million that Pompey are asking for him. It would be a step in the wrong direction for Pompey if they sold world class talent like Prosinecki - however who could refuse £2million pounds for 4 months work and the chance to play for the European Champions?
Meanwhile Dave Beasant has been told to hold up his new contract with Spurs because Pompey could once again be interested in signing him. The deal could go through this week - in time for Beasant to start against Bradford. Mandaric revealed that he wouldn't stand in Rix's way - but questioned the decision to sign the ageing keeper:
'I'm not saying no but I'm not giving the green light. But if it is the right thing for the club to bring back Dave Beasant, I will not run away.'
