The latest transfer speculation from todays journo's has been the possible move of Chelsea defender Robert Huth to Pompey.
To be honest, I could have wrote this story as soon as his move to Middlesbrough fell through. The "article generator" would have come with the following equation:
Huth move falls through + Pompey lack of decent centre backs = "Huth to Pompey"
Harry Redknapp has been quoted saying he likes Huth, but then he also likes Theirry Henry too. I do think Huth would be a good signing for a team lacking quality centre backs but if he's currently "injured", then surely he will fail a medical? Huth's proposed move to Boro was rumoured to cost around £5 million so if anything was to materialise then a similar fee would probably have to be paid although there's a possibility it might be slightly reduced due to our good relationship with Chelsea.
Meanwhile Harry has also set his sights Blackburn's Ryan Nelsen although I would think there would be no way he would swap UEFA Cup football for Pompey at the moment. Sol Campbell's possible move is also still in question.
I hope that the centre back situation is sorted sooner rather than later with pre-season on the horizon. I am in the firm belief that it is the centre back position that requires the most strengthening along with the winger positions. Peter Storrie has assured fans that we will only be looking to bring in top quality players, so if we can't get them then where does this leave us?
