Harry Redknapp has admitted that he may try and scupper AC Milan's loan move for David Beckham by bringing him back to the Premier League.
Beckham joining Pompey is about as likely as Southampton getting promoted this season and as far as I see it, the move to AC Milan is virtually a done deal. Do you really think Victoria Beckham would have her husband come to Pompey where she'll end up having to shop at Gunwharf Quays or Commercial Road!?
Harry is surely just winding up the media but for Pompey fans to be discussing the prospect of one of the world's biggest icons joining the club whilst keeping a semi-straight face is just another example of how far we've come in such a short space of time.
And it seems that our progress has been recognised as Portsmouth have been named as the second biggest over-achievers in English football since the Premier League was formed - according to a study carried out by The New Football Pools.
They have taken into consideration many factors including where all clubs were in 1992, the size of the club at that time compared to now, the attendances/stadium capacity of the club, financial situations and club transfers.
Since Pompey have fought many relegation battles in Division One (escaping relegation on the last day twice) and have almost gone out of business altogether, the study states that because nowadays seen as a top-ten Premier League side that has just won the FA Cup, we're the second biggest over-achievers in English football.
Only the remarkable rise through the football league of Doncaster Rovers eclipses Pompey's feats since 1992, whilst Southampton languish in 72nd in the 92 club table of achievement in relation to club size. Sheffield Wednesday are bottom.
In other news, Harry Redknapp and his family are set to feature in the latest adverts for the Nintendo Wii. I find this quite funny given how it wasn't so long ago that Redknapp was blaming games consoles on the "lazy youth of today".
Let's just hope he doesn't get too addicted to Super Mario Galaxy and ends up quitting management because of it!
