With the transfer window opening tomorrow, Pompey fans are bound to feel worried about the new year as players are linked to various clubs left, right and centre.
Whilst we should be used to transfer speculation by now having had Harry Redknapp at the helm this year the speculation will be far more intense when it comes to outgoing players, with our former boss already talking up a move for Defoe "if the price is right".
Virtually our entire squad has been touted for a move away either by our former manager, the media or the so-called TV pundits although Peter Storrie saying today that only Richard Duffy and Lauren will be allowed to leave without Pompey putting up a fight for them.
With questions over our financial status there have been few players linked to Pompey and I expect that most of January will contain news of Pompey trying to stop players leaving, rather than bringing them in and you can bet your life on Redknapp and the media stirring the pot to breaking point.
With our current slump in form, questionable financial status and an inexperienced manager in charge, can you really expect players to join the club? Storrie has said that targets have been identified but will they be good enough and more importantly, can we even afford them?
That question, along with the many others Pompey fans have about the current state of the club may be answered in January. I'm sure every we're all hoping that the storm can be weathered and the team won't be dismantled too much. Who knows? Maybe we might even strengthen the squad next month!
