Greg Halford has officially been announced as Pompey's latest recruit.
The 26-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year-contract after a very successful loan spell last season.
I'm delighted that Greg has made the permanent move to Fratton Park. He was one of our most consistent performers last season and excelled alongside Ricardo Rocha at centre back.
His versatility will come in handy during the long season ahead as he can also play at right back, a position currently earmarked for Joel Ward.
Greg was dominant in the air last season and chipped in with a few goals too. If he could make more of his long throw this season then that would be an extra bonus.
My only worry is that Halford's performances won't drop a level now he is a permanent Pompey player. We've seen it many times in the past when a player excels during a loan spell at a club only to go downhill when signed for keeps.
Hopefully my fears won't be realised and Halford can make a good case for being named Pompey's player of the season for the upcoming campaign.
