Pompey right back Andy Griffin has joined Championship side Stoke City on a months loan. Funnily enough I didn't know this until a mate of mine told me at Fratton Park yesterday! Regular viewers of the official site would also have to scroll halfway down the page to find this news.
Griffin is allowed to leave on loan due to transfer window regulations that allows lower league clubs to bring in temporary loan signings after August. The 27 year old currently finds himself down the pecking order of defenders who can play on the right with Johnson, Pamarot and Duffy all ahead of him in the team selection order.
Griffin last played for Pompey in that awful 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa where he was largely blamed for failing to mark Milan Baros who was allowed an easy header to score what turned out to be the winning goal. Whether we will ever see him in a Pompey shirt again will remain to be seen but barring a massive defensive injury crisis, I can't see him getting back into the team and he'll probably be sold in January.
As a person, Griffin is probably one of the most honest players around but he has constantly been questioned about if he can consistantly perform at this level. Whilst he is strong and commited in the tackle, his marking and passing leave something to be desired. Even so, he should perform well for his first club under ex-Pompey manager Tony Pulis.
Fratton Faithful wishes Andy Griffin the best at his new club, albeit temporarily.
