Contrary to popular belief, Avram Grant has not been ruled out of the running to become the next Portsmouth manager.
Sky Sports claimed that a source told them that Grant would stay in his role as technical director as the club looked for a new man to take charge, but Mark Jacob says that he is being considered and a source at ESPN claims that Grant has already been offered the job and is "thinking it over".
There will be a board meeting tomorrow and an appointment is expected to be made "then or on Friday at the latest". As a result the bookies have now made Avram Grant the favourite to become the next Pompey manager.
In another twist to the tale, Paul Hart is pondering an offer from Peter Storrie to become the club's technical director, so it could well be that Hart and Grant will switch roles.
This is a good appointment is Grant does decide to take the job. My only concern is that Chelsea fans believe that the only reason he was successful at Stamford Bridge was because of the input of Henk Ten Cate and Steve Clarke.
But he's a popular character despite what you may think by looking at him and his knowledge about football around the world is exceptional. He also knows the club from his first spell at Fratton Park so it's the logical decision.
