Gekas Shown The Door

Theofanis Gekas has had his loan spell at Portsmouth cut short and has been sent back to Bayer Leverkusen.

Gekas was signed by Tony Adams but its clear that Paul Hart didn't rate him for whatever reason and that meant reported training ground bust ups between the two which resulted in the Greek refusing to play for the reserves as well as allegedly refusing to feature against Sunderland on Monday too.

It's a shame we never got to discover how good Gekas was after only seeing him on the pitch for 30 seconds at the end of the match against West Brom when he didn't even touch the ball. He did score a last minute winner against West Ham reserves though!

Jermaine Pennant is another player likely to be shown the door come the end of the season. His behaviour has come into question on more than one occasion since he was apparently left out of the squad at Hull for drinking and his performances on the pitch haven't produced an end product either.

The on-loan Liverpool winger was also missing from the lap of appreciation at the end of the Sunderland game so I think it is safe to say that he has played his last game for Pompey and we won't see him at Fratton Park again unless he is playing for the opposition.

I'm not too bothered if Jermaine doesn't play for us again because he hasn't shown the quality that is needed on a consistent basis to play for us. Some fans believe that he offers something to the team but no goals, no assists (to my knowledge) and too many wayward passes would suggest differently.

So Pompey now need someone to play in Pennant's position. I just hope it isn't Nugent or Utaka who has to fill that spot and I don't see a long-term future for Glen Johnson there either (and not just because he's probably off in the summer).

Paul Hart certainly has something to think about over the summer, if he's still in charge of course.
