Four In, Distin Out

Pompey have confirmed that Wigan midfielder Michael Brown has signed from Wigan, Kevin-Prince Boateng and Jamie O'Hara have signed from Tottenham and Aruna Dindane has joined on loan from Lens. The club have also confirmed that Sylvain Distin has joined Everton on a three-year-deal.

32-year-old Brown has signed for an undisclosed fee on a two-year-deal and joins the club he once spent a short time with whilst Alan Ball was the manager.

I'm not really a fan of Brown's and think he's an average player with a nasty streak, but given our current troubles a nasty streak is just what we need, although he is yet another defensive midfielder to join the club.

I'm much happier with the signing of Dindane. The 28-year-old Ivorian should partner Piquionne up front which means we may finally play two up front! He's a quality player with a good scoring record in France and I hope he can form a potent strike partnership with Freddie.

Distin has signed for the Toffees for a reported fee of £5.7 million and whilst I think that is a great fee, this move may have just cost us over £60 million unless a replacement can be found or Hart decides our tactics are now simply to outscore the opposition.

I don't think he'll be in for a hot reception when he comes back to Fratton Park because he was honest and has always stated his ambition but I can't see too many cheers for him either as he was the captain of a ship that now looks like sinking after he deserted it.

As for Boateng, I can't see why anyone would want to pay anywhere near £4 million for the Ghanian, a player who has struggled in England and has been vastly criticised by the Tottenham fans. However, he's young and has a point to prove, something past Pompey players have thrived on to turn their careers around so hopefully Kevin can do the same.

On the other hand, I've always rated O'Hara because he has always looked impressive when I've seen him play and Spurs fans seem to agree having seen their disappointment in Redknapp letting him leave when their own midfield is short on numbers.

The Tottenham contingent say he'll be an excellent signing for us and although he has only signed on loan until January, he could make a big difference.

It has been a rather busy day then, just like the next few will be too I expect!
