Shaun Derry quickly became a fans' favourite since he joined Pompey and rightfully was made captain. An unsung hero with Pitt, Quashie, Crouch, Harper, Primus and Prosinecki taking all the plaudits Derry quitely went about his work and gained many plaudits at Pompey - with many regarding Derry as the man to build a fledging team around.
Derry is a man of principles and has been infuriated by the way Graham Rix was treated and sacked by Pompey. This site understands that he is ready to wash his hands of the club and walk away in the summer. Part of a 'gang of five' Redknapp was viewed upon highly suspiciously by Harper, Quashie, Pitt, Derry and Beasant - all of whom were personal friends of Rix and were highly agrieved by his departure. Redknapp has tried to null Quashie's anger by heaping responsibility and praise upon a player he rates highly. Harper, Pitt and Beasant are expected to stay but Derry wants out and Millwall and Everton have been alerted to his services. Everton could even make a double swoop in the summer for Quashie and Derry.
One talent who will defintely be staying is Robert Prosinecki. The opposite to Derry, Prosinecki is heartned by the appointment of Redknapp and is happy to be the player Harry builds his team around. A Mandaric signing, Prosinecki created divisions in the camp and with the management under Rix. The Croatian being a victim of the muddy undercurrent that streams through Portsmouth Football Club.
Rix or Redknapp? Derry or Prosinecki? As with most things at Pompey it seems that the problems are always interlinked and the fans' ultimately divided...
