Johnny Ertl has officially left Portsmouth by mutual consent.
The 32-year-old had been in talks over a compensation package to cancel his contract a year early and he is now officially a free agent.
It's a shame to see such a popular player go but in all honesty in Paul Cook's mind he isn't the calibre of player he wants in his squad. He may give everything and shirk nothing but his limited talent means he isn't going to prominently feature in a team aiming for promotion.
Still, he's a gentleman off the pitch and will undoubtedly get a rousing reception every time he returns to Fratton Park for everything he has done in the community. Despite some fans' overly harsh criticism of him, he wasn't the worst player to wear the famous royal blue shirt.
We wish him well in his future endeavours and hope to see him back at Fratton Park soon.
