After poaching Andrew Cole, David James and Sylvain Distin from Manchester City, it looks like another might be moving south as Pompey look to sign Richard Dunne.
Dunne is said to want out of City after he rejected a new contract with them which has put various clubs on alert and Harry Redknapp has admitted that he is interested in taking the 28-year-old to Fratton Park.
Pompey face competition to sign the Irishman from the likes of Aston Villa, Newcastle and Tottenham but Harry believes we have just as much chance as these clubs to sign a top class centre back and I agree. After all, we have had a better season than all of those clubs and our potential is just as good, if not, better than them too.
Signing for Pompey would allow Dunne to reform his rock solid defensive partnership with Sylvain Distin but what would that mean for Sol Campbell?
I'm hoping it would mean he still stays at the club and we have at least three top quality centre backs meaning if one gets injured, tired or suspended then he have excellent cover for them. I feel we'll need as many quality players as we can get with our first European campaign on the horizon and Dunne would be an excellent addition.
There are whispers that talks are already at an advanced stage so watch this space!
