Pompey are close to sealing a £6 million deal for Lyon midfielder Alou Diarra, according to club president Jean-Michel Aulas. The midfielder has been linked to Pompey in recent weeks and is also supposed to be being chased by Werder Bremen and Juventus.
Aulas has said "Portsmouth are in the driving seat. Diarra could leave in the coming days." The 25-year-old is likened to Claude Makelele because of his willingness to get stuck in and break up play, meaning he could be an instant hit at Fratton Park because we all love a player who isn't afraid to go into a tackle don't we?
The Frenchman doesn't want to play under Alain Perrin and so it looks like Reggie's former club will be happy to take him off of his hands, for the right price...
The deal is yet to be done and knowing Pompey there will be a late hitch or two, so watch this space!
