Michael Doyle has become Paul Cook's eighth summer signing and has penned a one-year-contract with Portsmouth.
It has been no secret that the 33-year-old has been on Pompey's radar for a long time since his release from Sheffield United and the defensive midfielder is now ready to get stuck in at his new club.
With James Dunne being left out of the trip to Portugal and Doyle being virtually a like-for-like player, this signing will only fuel speculation that Dunne will be leaving but being able to keep him in the squad would be a bonus.
Whatever happens to Dunne, Doyle is a very good signing for League Two level if he can avoid injuries. Pompey fans should take to him well given that he isn't one to bottle challenges.
Doyle's addition to the squad means that Cook probably only needs to add a full back or two and a striker to his group of players before he's happy. Paul Robinson has also been named as Pompey captain which isn't a surprise given his leadership skills.
