A Crown Court judge has issued a witness warrant to Sylvain Distin after he failed to appear at the trial of Joey Barton as a key witness.
The 30-year-old Frenchman has now been given 14 days to hand himself in to the Police or face being arrested. Distin gave a statement to officers after witnessing Barton's attack on Manchester City team mate Ousmane Dabo but is seemingly reluctant to give evidence against the thug.
The Pompey defender allegedly told a police officer: "You can lock me up for ten years, I'm not coming off my holiday."
The police have now ordered Distin to inform them why he didn't turn up to give evidence against Barton but the whole issue shouldn't matter now as the Newcastle United midfielder changed his plea to "guilty" at the last minute and as such, no further evidence is needed.
This is a bit of a non-story but expect Distin to receive some sort of petulant fine for not wanting to cut short his break following a long, exhausting season with Pompey.
