According to internet sources, Papa Bouba Diop is training with Portsmouth in a bid to return to his old club.
Now 34, the midfielder was released from West Ham at the end of last season and is currently without a club.
The Senegalese man wasn't the most popular player during his time at Pompey, mainly due to his clumsiness and his inability to score, having never found the net in 53 appearances for the club.
Of course, this could just be a rumour but given that the Pompey midfield currently lacks an enforcer, Diop could be the man to tighten things up as long as he isn't played on the right like Harry Redknapp used to.
It has already been confirmed that Luis Boa Morte and Akos Buzsaky are also on trial with Pompey.
The latter would be an excellent addition to the squad. The ex-Plymouth and QPR midfielder is good technically and has an eye for goal. He is probably too good for League One so if Michael Appleton can sign him then it would be something of a coup.
On the other hand, Boa Morte is now 35 and has made a grand total of 10 professional appearances in the last two years. His main attribute was always his pace which has surely gone now and I doubt whatever skills he has would be too useful in the third tier of English football.
Who will be next to try their luck at the Pompey training ground? Eugen Bopp, perhaps?
