According to reports, Sean Davis is wanted by several Premiership clubs including Middlesbrough and Bolton. Pompey are willing to listen to offers for the central midfielder.
I'm not sure how believable this source is to be honest. It could be your typical lazy journalism that's assumed that because Davis hasn't started the last couple of games, he's obviously on his way out. This is despite the fact he's been ill recently and hasn't been able to start a game anyway.
Davis had a solid start to the season and did an under-rated job marshalling the centre of midfield and giving Mendes the license to be a more creative influence on the pitch. However, he's been inconsistent recently and has been outperformed by his less illustrious centre midfield partner; Richard Hughes.
But should he be sold? I suppose if a team came in with an offer of £3 million then we'd have to consider it given the fact that we have enough defensive/holding midfielders at the club as it is and at times Davis has looked very average, though I'd never question his commitment on the pitch.
Maybe I'm being a bit too harsh him and we'd miss a player with his battling and passing qualities because on his day Sean can be an excellent performer, but there's a question mark over his consistency and with Hughes doing a commendable job in the same role, is Davis viewed as surplus to requirements?
Whatever your opinions are of him, we'll find out just how much truth there is to this story come the summer.
In other news, Reading beat useless Newcastle 1-0 tonight meaning they have overtaken us once again. That game at Goodison Park just got a little bit bigger...
