David Connolly has become a player-coach at Portsmouth FC and will now work with Guy Whittingham and Alan McLoughlin off the pitch whilst continuing to lead the frontline on it.
The move has been mooted for a while so it's no real surprise to see this role confirmed and it makes sense. The Irishman is clearly clever enough to teach his team mates a thing of two in an official capacity and hopefully the younger players can develop with the knowledge he has to offer.
Who would have thought that a player once labelled a "useless Scummer reject" by a few short-sighted Pompey fans would go on to become one of the most influential figures at Portsmouth Football Club?
In other news, the Pompey Megastore on the corner of Fratton Way and Goldstone Avenue is finally set to reopen after a deal was signed with Sports Direct to control the shop. According to engagement manager Micah Hall, this deal is set to raise around £300,000 in revenue and hopefully the store will be open when Pompey take on Rochdale on October 5th.
It's a breath of fresh air to have some good news off the pitch in recent times, so if the players would deliver some good news on the pitch then that would go down very nicely indeed.
