COMINGS AND GOINGS AT FRATTON

Pompey seem to have continued their flux of solid signings with the news that, as expected, Shaka Hislop will appear between the sticks for Pompey next season. This leaves the future of Dave Beasant and Kawaguchi in further doubt and Beasant is currently mulling over a new deal - with it being made clear that he will at the most only be a number two keeper next year.

Alessandro Zamperini and Stefani Miglioranzi have both left to their respective Pizzeria's in Rome and New York. Miglioranzi will return to England for a trial at Sheffield Wednesday and probably become their player of the season, while Zamperini leaves after arriving in dubious circumstances. He excelled in some games in defence but was guilty of making poor mistakes at times. He was never a favourite with the players who felt he was worse than the fans believed he was and will probably not be missed a great deal.

It's in the management team that fans will now see the most changes once the season kicks off in earnest in a couple of weeks for Jim Smith, Pompey's most popular and successful manager of the last 12 years, has arrived to work alongside Redknapp. Smith has a close connection with the club and is keen to see it returned to it's historically successful past. Kevin Bond also returns as reserve team coach. Smith and Redknapp are one of the most media friendly double acts in football - it's up to the team to provide the excitement off it as well...
