Do you remember the good old days? A time when a gap in games didn't mean a gap in excitement - in fact, quite the opposite. Where other teams saw a two week chance to recharge their batteries and rebuild morale, we always saw a chance to go blabbing in the press about potential signings, start rumours of fights behind the scenes, or even days far gone by look like we were on our way out of business.
But where have those days gone my friends? Look at what has happened over the last two weeks;
1) Andy Griffin got injured
2) Milan stole Harry's lunch money
3) Er...
4) That's it.
And what's most disappointing is when you think of the potential we've had. Milan spoke about the search for a new manager and how he hoped to have someone in place by the end of April. Come on Velimir! Work with us here! That's your window of opportunity to throw a tantrum, say you're leaving, demand showdown talks at Port Solent and then decide that you're going to stay in a state of constant uncertainty. I know you're new to the English game but these sort of openings should be obvious.
And let's not forget the possible rumours that could have been spread about the forthcoming Newcastle match. Yakubu is meant to be going there in the summer, so perhaps he'll deliberately not play as well because he doesn't want to upset his future team-mates. It's easy when you put your mind to it! Or the goalkeeper situation; twelve months ago Teddy Sheringham demanded that Pavel Srnicek be played because he didn't like Harald Wapenaar. Now we've got an even more potentially explosive situation with Chalkias, and what happens? All the players don't pass comment on it, whilst Ashdown and Shaka say they're prepared to fight for their place! What is the world coming to.
Well I've had enough. I want - nay, demand - more from our players. It's time to bring an end to this professional silence around the club and turn us back into the spotlight obsessed laughing stock that we once were, and preferably starting as soon as possible. The talk of signing Dean Sturridge is a good start, so let's move on from there.
