Slaven Bilic has emerged as the new favourite for the Pompey manager's job after it was reported that Pompey have made an approach for the Croatia manager.
Bilic's agent, Rudi Vata, has told the media that Portsmouth have made an approach but there has been "nothing concrete" and he also states that "the idea of working with and building the club would excite him [Bilic]."
Of course, hiring the former West Ham defender would not be straightforward as the Croatian football federation are going to put up a stern fight to keep their young, successful manager but Bilic may decide now is the time to move into club management.
Pompey fans say that because of his lack of experience appointing Bilic would be a risk but then you could say that about any of our so-called managerial "targets".
Sven Goran-Eriksson has just been sacked after a poor stint at Mexico, Roberto Mancini has never managed in the Premier League and had it rather easy at Inter whilst Harry Redknapp could always walk out on us again.
Bilic would be the biggest risk but who dares wins and I believe that this risk could reap massive reward for us in the future. He's still young, he has charisma and he has Croatia playing good football despite their recent blip.
I'd be happy if he was unveiled as the next Pompey manager but I expect more twists and turns in this saga yet.
