Al-Fahim Completes Takeover

Last updated : 26 August 2009 By Jim Bonner
Sulaiman Al-Fahim has announced that he has officially bought Portsmouth Football Club from Alexandre Gaydamak and that his company, Al Fahim Asia Associates is now the owner.

A very brief statement from the official website read:

Devondale Investments, the current owner of Portsmouth FC and Al Fahim Asia Associates (AAA), a company fully owned by Sulaiman Al-Fahim, chairman of the board of Portsmouth FC, have reached an agreement whereby AAA has become the sole new owner of the club.

Sulaiman Al-Fahim welcomed this agreement and and looks forward to helping this club build on its impressive history and achieve new successes in the Premier League.

The chairman of the club would like to extend his gratitude to the players, staff and supporters of Portsmouth FC who have shown an extraordinary level of commitment and loyalty to this great club.

However, this statement had disappeared from the official website for a while but has now returned after Peter Storrie's interview with The Quay.

Peter Storrie has told The Quay that Sacha called him at midday to tell him that he was selling to Sulaiman Al-Fahim despite telling him that the deal with his (very wealthy Saudi Arabian) investors was still on.

Storrie sounded absolutely gutted and was on the verge of tears in the interview. He claims he is happy that the club is now stable but feels that all his work over the last two or three weeks has been a complete waste of time.

He said he will conclude the deals for the four players that Paul Hart was interested in and will then take a few days off with his wife. But he is completely shocked and disheartened at the events that have transpired today.

So, Al-Fahim is now officially the owner and it looks like we may have missed out on unbelieveably rich owners. I really hope Sacha hasn't made a big mistake in selling to Al-Fahim and the new chairman has a lot of work to do in the next few days.

I really hope that Storrie doesn't leave (I never thought I'd say that) and that he and Al-Fahim can work out their differences. Storrie has worked incredibly hard to keep this club alive and deserves to have a major role at the club.

Like everyone else, I am left wondering what this deal means for PFC and I want to hear what Al-Fahim has to say. He needs to pump some money into this club and answer some very big questions after months of dragging this takeover on and on.
