I was listening to the Quay's podcast interview with Peter Storrie earlier today (click here to download if you haven't listened yet, it's worth listening to) and as well as talking about the tabloid trash trying to cause trouble for the club he also talked about the futures of the current Pompey squad.
He revealed that Sean Davis is likely to leave after he rejected a very good offer to stay at the club whilst out of all of the out-of-contract players at the club, the only ones Pompey are interested in keeping are Hermann Hreidarsson and Sol Campbell.
That means Lauren, Djimi Traore, Richard Duffy, Glen Little, Jerome Thomas, Noe Pamarot, Linvoy Primus and Kanu will all be leaving Pompey in search of a new club, excluding Linvoy who should stay as a club ambassador/coach.
So with all those players seemingly out the door and Glen Johnson certain to leave for a club in the Champions League it seems that the prospective new manager has a hell of a job on his hands to build a good football team.
But could you imagine how bad it would be if the takeover fell through? Not only would we be forced to sell Peter Crouch and Niko Kranjcar but we would also have a threadbare squad that would probably never survive in the Premier League.
Thankfully, Storrie also said that scouts have been looking at targets and if (or when) the takeover is complete it shouldn't be too long before a new manager is in place and deals are done.
But if the worst happens then I imagine our team might look something like this in a best case scenario:
GK: David JAMES
RB: Martin CRANIE
CB: Sylvain DISTIN
CB: Younes KABOUL
LB: Nadir BELHADJ
RM: Arnold MVUEMBA
CM: Angelos BASINAS
CM: Papa BOUBA DIOP
LM: Matt RITCHIE
CF: David NUGENT
CF: John UTAKA
That lineup scares me so it's imperative that this takeover goes through. I'm still very confident it will happen but that possible side just highlights how many additions to the squad will be needed when the new manager arrives.
