Replaced Steve Coppell at the beginning of last season following his shock resignation after serving the club as a player and as assistant manager since 2004, with a couple of caretaker spells in charge.
As a player he spent most of his career playing as a centre back at Brentford and Watford.
The Fans
I only know one Bristol City fan and he was a wind-up-merchant who preferred Pompey to lose rather than his own team winning! The majority of Robins have a dislike for "the gas" and they're not too keen on Cardiff either.
Apparently, football commentator Jonathan Pearce is a Bristol City fan along with cricketer Marcus Trescothick and, of course, The Wurzels!
The Ground: Ashton Gate (Capacity: 21,500)
Ashton Gate is much like Fratton Park in the sense that it's an old ground with a bit of character about it, yet it probably needs a bit of modernising.
As you enter the ground you will see the Dolman Stand in front of you (photo below) with the away stand to your right. Ashton Gate's away end is unique as it must be the most condusive to creating a loud atmosphere and yet the seats have no backs and the stand is very shallow.
The opposite end to the away section is the Blackthorn Atyeo Stand which was built in 2004.
This is a photo of the aging Williams stand taken from the away end. As you can see, the game can be difficult to view if you're situated too far back so my advice would be to try and get as close to the front as possible.
