Pompey's season would come to an uninspired end with just two games of the season left to play.
Norwich came to Fratton Park on the Bank Holiday Monday as fans turned out for what was a successful fans day to celebrate Championship survival as well as the club surviving a very difficult period in its history.
Unfortunately it was the Canaries who ended the night celebrating as Simeon Jackson's goal was enough to beat Pompey by a single goal and secure Paul Lambert's side promotion to the Premier League.
The final game of the season took place at already relegated Scunthorpe. Ramon Nunez gave the Iron the lead with a good individual goal but Nugent capitalised on some hilariously bad defending to score what should be his final goal in a Pompey shirt to earn a draw.
When the curtain came down on what was a rollercoaster season, Portsmouth had managed to finish in 16th position. The final position may have been slightly disappointing given the first team squad at Steve Cotterill's disposal but to have survived after such a turbulent time is a credit to his work.
However, the acid test is how we cope under new ownership and a squad that is (hopefully) less restricted that what he had to work with last season.
