October was the month where the upheaval at Portsmouth Football Club really began.
Steve Cotterill was feeling the pressure as the first day of the month saw Pompey fall to yet another dire defeat on the road, this time at Leeds where a single Danny Pugh goal was enough to win them a match where Greg Halford hit the woodwork in Pompey's only decent attempt.
The next match was a charity friendly played at Fratton Park against FC Rostov of Russia in aid of the Russian hockey team crash victims. Halford and Marko Futacs got the goals in a 2-0 win.
That would be Cotterill's final match in charge of Portsmouth as some strange rumours were going around the following week that Nottingham Forest were after the Pompey manager as a replacement for the sacked Steve McClaren.
Those rumours soon became the truth as Pompey fans were bewildered that struggling Forest actually paid money to take him when he was rumoured to be close to getting the sack anyway!
Cotterill's departure meant that Guy Whittingham and Stuart Gray took charge of the team for the televised fixture against Barnsley.
David Norris' well executed volley followed quickly by a Luke Varney finish from Dave Kitson's cross saw the Tykes well beaten as the rumours began as to who Steve Cotterill's successor would be.
Dave Jones looked set to take the Pompey job but Mark McGhee, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Brian Laws were also mentioned as candidates.
Nothing materialised as Pompey fell to another away defeat, this time at Ipswich thanks to a Keith Andrews goal in the second half of the game.
Whittingham and Gray continued as interim managers as Doncaster Rovers were swept aside at Fratton Park. Varney scored twice to add to Norris' scrappy goal in a 3-1 which saw Simon Gillett equalise in the first half.
Despite not having a manager, Abdul Razak was borrowed for a month from Manchester City and was registered in time for the last match of October at Pride Park.
Unfortunately Derby County were just too strong and took the lead after just six minutes after Craig Bryson avoided two "challenges" from Tal Ben-Haim before firing past Stephen Henderson.
Chris Maguire then introduced himself to Pompey fans by tapping in a second goal against his future club after Henderson spilled Theo Robinson's thunderous strike.
Jamie Ward completed the rout as the game was won before half-time, although Jason Pearce did head in a consolation goal late in the second half.
The month ended badly for Portsmouth but November would bring a whole new whirlwind of problems as the proverbial really hit the fan in November.
